Tooling down 28
Arkansas Highway 28 from Rover, west to the Cedar Creek community, has a substantial population of old residences, barns, churches, and store buildings. Some are well preserved, and some are on their last legs, but all have a story to tell. See the stories at Corndancer dot-com and Weekly Grist for the Eyes and Mind.

- A landowner who believes in "adaptive re-use," put this old mule-drawn hayrake where a gate should have been. Before brisk winds ripped it asunder, the paper taped to the seat said, "Posted No Trespassing." Signs, signs, everywhere there's signs!"
- The well-cared for The Onyx, Arkansas Landmark Missionary Baptist Church started life as a school house in 1908. Like many communities, it started multi-tasking in 1919 when it became home to the church as well. Now it is a church only.
- The only approach to the church includes a low-water bridge.
- Signs on the church front attest to its history.
- Were it not for a peripheral glance, I would have misssed this creek off Arkansas Highway 28. The white tree branch flashed briefly necessitating a turn-around.
- Same scene, a few minutes later, cropped tighter.
- Same place, cropped even tighter. One scene can yield many pictures.
- Though the Ozarks are more widely known outside Arkansas, the Ouachita Mountains are every bit as spectacular.
- The Wing Community Church at Wing, Arkansas. The church is well preserved and cared for.
- This old house outside Bluffton, Arkansas was probably once a bustling family home, It now resides in a pasture alongside a plethora of "meadow muffins."
- These two old barn / utility buildings are outside Gravelly, Arkansas on Arkansas HIghway 28.
- A closeup of the barn.
- This is not the first time I have shot this old house at Mad Dog Hill Lane and Arkansas Highway 28. Alas, as would be expected, someone has stolen the "Mad Dog Hill Lane" sign.
- Second view of the old house, Notice the Victorian decor along the roofline,
