Byrd house in Poyen
The Samuel D. Byrd homestead is in plain site one mile west of Poyen, Arkansas on U.S. Highway 270. If you are headed west from Poyen, it is right before the “narrow bridge”on your right. Conversely if you are headed east to Poyen, it is right after the ”narrow bridge” on your left. The house has been there since 1848, occupied until 2000 by members of the Byrd family. Hobart and Betty Byrd are the current owners. Hobart is a descendant Samuel D. Byrd who built the original structure. Here are 18 pictures of the historic home. See the stories that go with the pictures at Corndancer dot-com and Weekly Grist for the Eyes and Mind.
